Read Out Loud Shuttle Bus and Authors' Readings

The Barrie artist collective Ear to the Ground has transformed a shuttle bus with language and visual art, which will tour visitors to select Doors Open Barrie sites, the Tourism Barrie Office at the Southshore Community Centre and festival hotel partners. On board the bus, visitors will discover a “library on wheels” or “book mobile”. Throughout the day, Barrie authors Dr. Bruce Meyer, Damian Lopes and Trudee Romanek will board the bus to share readings from selected works.
 
Ear to the Ground is a cultural group who use the language of arts and culture as a catalyst for environmental awareness and social action. The collective consists of local artists Jenn Guerin, Jacqui Swanek and Whitney O’Brien, recent graduates of the School of Design and Visual Arts, Georgian College.

Bruce Meyeris professor of English at Georgian College. He is a finalist in the 2010 TV Ontario Best Lecturer competition and author of thirty books, including the national bestseller The Golden Thread and the poetry collections Dog Days and Mesopotamia. He is a member of the Barrie Arts Council.
 
Damian Lopes is the author of three print books and two electronic books of poetry. His poetry, fiction and visual work has appeared in literary journals and magazines across Canada, in the USA and Europe and numerous small and micro press chapbooks and broadsides. Lopes is the chair of the Barrie Arts Council, a writer member of PEN Canada, and a member of the Writers’ Union of Canada.
 
Trudee Romanek is the author of nine books of non-fiction for young readers, which have been translated into Chinese, Dutch, Indonesian, Korean, and Arabic. Her works have been recognized by the Canadian Science Writers’ Association, the Society of School Librarians International, and the International Reading Association among others. Aha! The Most Interesting Book You’ll Ever Read About Intelligence won the 2006-07 Red Cedar Non-fiction Prize. In 2009, she was awarded a Barrie Arts Awards for Excellence in the Arts.

Read Out Loud Shuttle Bus Tour Route
 
10:00 am – Read Out Loud Shuttle leaves the MacLaren (37 Mulcaster Street) and does a pick- up run to all of the hotels, beginning with Days Inn (60 Bryne Drive), then Travel Lodge Hart Drive (55 Hart Drive), then Harbour View Inn (1 Berczy Street) then back to the MacLaren. Out of town visitors and Barrie residents are welcome to leave their cars at Days Inn for the day – the shuttle will return them to the Days Inn.
 
The following schedule will loop throughout the day: Every hour until 4:30 – at which time we will offer rides back to hotels
 
10:30 am      MacLarenArtCentre (37 Mulcaster Street) to Southshore Community Centre (205 Lakeshore Drive)
20-25 minute stop-over for passengers
 
11:00 am      Southshore Centre (205 Lakeshore Drive) to  Maple Hill Montessori School (47 Toronto Street)
10-15 minute stop-over for passengers
 
11:20 am      Maple Hill Montessori (147 Toronto Street) to Barrie Public Library (60 Worsley Street)
drop off and pick up location only: there are several sites within walking distance of this location.
 
11:25 am      Barrie Public Library (60 Worsley Street) to Meridian Planning Consultants Inc. (113 Collier Street)

Shuttle returns to MacLaren for next hourly circuit.
